Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ultimate destination for a Uganda gorilla trekking safari. The trek can be physically demanding, but the reward of standing just meters away from a gorilla family in their natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After your gorilla trek, unwind at the serene Lake Bunyonyi, surrounded by rolling hills and dotted with 29 islands. The lake is free from bilharzia and crocodiles, making it safe for swimming. Visitors can enjoy canoe rides, cultural visits, or simply relax by the lakeshore.
Early morning, your safari guide from Kabira Gorilla safaris will collect you for a transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey is via a 4×4 safari vehicle. Approximately 80 Km from Kampala, you’ll pause at the equator line for photography. The drive then continues to southwestern Uganda. Lunch will be at a reputable restaurant in Mbarara. Post-lunch, the journey proceeds to the park, arriving in the evening. You’ll check in, have dinner, and spend the night at your chosen accommodation facility. Options range from budget to mid-range or luxury at one of the 4 trekking sectors booked for trekking.
Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
Early morning, after breakfast, you’ll head out for Gorilla trekking. You’re expected at the park headquarters by 8:00 am for a briefing from the park rangers. During this session, rangers will inform trekkers about the dos and don’ts of Gorilla trekking. At this time, you’ll also be assigned a Gorilla family to trek. Each group typically consists of 8 people, depending on hiking ability. You’ll venture into the dense tropical jungle of Bwindi forest for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The trek can last 2-6 hours or more. However, only a maximum of 1 hour is spent in the presence of the Mountain Gorillas, observing the family and taking photographs. After 60 minutes with the Gorillas, you’ll return to the park headquarters. Here, you’ll receive a congratulatory Gorilla trekking certificate. Your guide will then drive you to your accommodation facility for relaxation. Overnight at the previous night’s accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Following breakfast, you’ll transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in the Kabale district, a scenic lava-dammed lake. The word Bunyonyi is a local term referring to “many little birds” due to the area’s abundant birdlife, making it an excellent spot for bird enthusiasts. Here, you can relax and choose from several activities, including a boat cruise to one of the lake’s most historic islands, swimming, or zip-lining. All these adventure activities offer an amazing experience. You’ll spend the night at one of the lodges on the lake shores.
